How to Install Ferrule Fittings – PE-LOCK Assembly Guide for Leak-Proof Connections

Proper installation is critical for achieving a leak-free, vibration-resistant, and reusable seal with ferrule fittings. At Perfect Engineers, our PE-LOCK double ferrule compression fittings are precision-engineered to offer reliable connections—but only when installed correctly.

This guide provides a step-by-step process, common mistakes to avoid, torque tips, and maintenance suggestions to help your team install PE-LOCK fittings safely and efficiently in the field.

Table of Contents

Tools You’ll Need

  • Tube cutter (for square, burr-free cuts)
  • Deburring tool (ID & OD)
  • Tube sizing gauge
  • PE-LOCK spanner set / open-end wrenches
  • Marker or scribe
  • Caliper (optional for precision insertion depth)

Step-by-Step Guide – Installing Double Ferrule Fittings

 Step 1: Cut the Tube

  • Use a tubing cutter to create a square, clean cut
  • Avoid hacksaws or angled cuts
  • Ensure no deformation occurs on the tube end

Step 2: Deburr the Tube

  • Deburr inside and outside edges of the tube with a deburring tool
  • This ensures proper ferrule grip and prevents damage to sealing surfaces

Step 3: Insert the Tube

  • Slide the nut and both ferrules (back first, then front) onto the tube
  • Insert the tube into the fitting body until it bottoms against the shoulder
  • Rotate the tube slightly to ensure it’s fully seated

Step 4: Mark the Tube

  • Use a marker to draw a line along the nut and fitting body
  • This helps you visually confirm when a full turn has been completed

Step 5: Tighten the Nut

First Installation (New Fitting)

  • Tighten the nut 1-1/4 turns from finger-tight position
  • Use your markings to guide the rotation

PE-LOCK Torque Guidelines (for Stainless Steel Fittings)

Tube Size (OD) Initial Torque Re-Torque
1/8” 5–6 Nm 1–2 Nm
1/4” 11–13 Nm 3–5 Nm
3/8” 22–24 Nm 6–8 Nm
1/2” 33–36 Nm 10–12 Nm
3/4” 65–70 Nm 18–22 Nm
1” 85–90 Nm 25–30 Nm

Common Installation Mistakes to Avoid

Mistake Why It’s a Problem
Not fully inserting the tube Leads to incorrect ferrule seating
Overtightening Can crack ferrules or deform the body
Using bent or damaged tubing Inaccurate sealing, poor alignment
Mixing brand components Interference, improper sealing geometry
Skipping deburring Can damage ferrule faces or cause leaks

How to Reinstall Ferrule Fittings

  1. Ferrule swages permanently on the tube after the first installation
  2. To re-install, insert tube into same size body until ferrule seats
  3. Tighten 1/8 turn past snug – avoid full 1-1/4 rotation
  4. Do not reassemble if ferrules show damage or wear

Field Assembly Kits (Available on Request)

  • Tube cutter & deburrer
  • PE-LOCK torque wrench set
  • Fitting identification gauge
  • Installation guide booklet
  • Custom foam-cut field kit box

Buyer-Focused FAQs

Yes, but use new ferrules and nut. Do not reuse swaged ferrules.

Torque control is ideal for critical systems but not mandatory. Marking the nut/body works well for manual installs.

You’ll feel resistance increase during tightening, and marking lines will confirm rotation is complete.

Yes. PE-LOCK fittings are fully compatible and interchangeable with Swagelok®, Parker®, and Hy-Lok®.
