What is a Floating Ball Valve?

A Floating Ball Valve has a ball that is not anchored but held in place by two elastomeric seats. When fluid pressure is applied, the ball floats slightly downstream, pressing against the seat and creating a tight, leak-proof seal.

This design is widely used for low to medium pressure systems, typically in valves up to 6” in size.

Key Features of Our Floating Ball Valves

  1. Compact design with quarter-turn shut-off
  2. Leak-tight sealing using floating ball + soft seats
  3. Available in 1-piece, 2-piece, 3-piece, and flanged configurations
  4. Compatible with manual and automated actuation
  5. Seats made of PTFE, RPTFE, Delrin, Graphite
  6. Available in full bore and reduced bore types
  7. Body materials: SS304, SS316, WCB, Brass, CPVC

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Mount in any orientation (horizontal or vertical)
  • Avoid overtightening threaded ends
  • Operate periodically to prevent seat compression memory
  • Use compatible PTFE tape or sealant
  • For abrasive or slurry media, flush valve regularly

FAQs

No. Use V-Port ball valves for throttling. Floating valves are best for on/off service.

Yes—for low to medium-pressure steam, use graphite-seated floating ball valves.

Use metal-seated or cavity-filled floating valves for paints, slurries, or sticky fluids.

Yes. Available with cavity-filled, tri-clamp, and FDA-approved designs.
